How to Set Up IPTV on Apple TV, iPhone and iPad

What you need before you start

• An Apple TV HD or Apple TV 4K, or an iPhone or iPad on recent software. UHF needs iOS 16 or later on iPhone and iPad.
• Your Apple Account signed in to the App Store on that device.

• A steady connection. On the Apple TV 4K (3rd generation), only the Wi-Fi + Ethernet model has an Ethernet port; otherwise use 5 GHz Wi-Fi.
• For iPhone or iPad away from home: a mobile plan with room to spare, because an HD stream uses more than 2 GB an hour.

How to install IPTV on Apple TV, iPhone & iPad

1. Open the App Store

   On Apple TV, open the App Store from the Home Screen and select Search at the top. On iPhone or iPad, open the App Store and tap Search.

2. Install UHF

   Type UHF Love your IPTV and open the app from Short Wavelength Applications. Select Get and confirm with your Apple Account if asked. You can also open the UHF App Store page on your iPhone.

3. Open UHF and add a playlist

   Open UHF and choose to add a new playlist. When the app asks what kind of playlist you have, select Xtream. This loads live channels, movies, series and the TV guide from one login.

4. Enter your server URL, username and password

   Type the server URL exactly as it appears in our email, with http:// and the port number if one is shown. Then add your username and password and save. On iPhone, watch for auto-capitalization: the keyboard likes to turn the first letter into a capital, which breaks the login.

   Only have an M3U link? Pick the M3U option instead and paste the full link.

5. Let everything load

   The first sync takes a minute or two. Channels appear first, then movies, series and the TV guide (EPG). Leave the app open until the guide fills in.

6. Turn on Match Content on Apple TV 4K

   Go to Settings > Video and Audio > Match Content and turn on Match Dynamic Range and Match Frame Rate. Sports and movies then play at their own frame rate, which removes the small judder you notice on fast camera pans.

7. Add favourites and a PIN

   Mark the channels you watch most as favourites so they sit at the top. UHF can also lock folders behind a PIN code, which is handy before kids use the Apple TV.

8. Repeat on your other Apple devices

   Install UHF on your iPhone or iPad the same way, with the same login. Each screen playing at the same moment counts toward your plan, so a 2-device plan lets two people watch at once. See device options on the IPTV subscription page.

Which IPTV app should you use on Apple devices?

Best settings for IPTV on Apple TV 4K

• Match Content on. Covered in step 6, and the single biggest improvement for live sports.
• Wire it if you can. The Wi-Fi + Ethernet Apple TV 4K and the Apple TV HD have a network port. A cable is steadier than Wi-Fi during busy evenings.
• Keep tvOS current. Settings > System > Software Updates, then turn on automatic updates.
• Restart after long sessions. Settings > System > Restart clears memory if the app starts to lag.

Watching IPTV on iPhone and iPad away from home

Your login works anywhere in Canada with a good connection: at the cottage, in a hotel or on the bus. Keep an eye on mobile data. An HD stream at about 5 Mbps uses roughly 2.25 GB an hour, and Full HD at about 10 Mbps is closer to 4.5 GB, so a three-hour hockey game can use a large share of a Canadian data plan. Use Wi-Fi when you can.

At a friend's place, UHF can send the picture to a TV with AirPlay or Chromecast. Your phone has to stay on and nearby while it plays.
